Description | Position Summary
This Groundskeeper position provides support to the OCHS Athletics Department through maintenance of grounds and athletic fields, ensuring a safe and appealing environment for students and the public.
Essential Functions
- Mow and water lawn areas, prune trees, bushes, and shrubs, weed plant and flower beds, and edge lawn areas.
- Spread bark dust, spray herbicides, and fertilize lawn areas and flower beds.
- Operate a tractor and other equipment or materials.
- Set up a public address system and scoring system for athletic events.
- Move bleachers, furniture, and equipment.
- Line athletic fields; prepare fields for athletic events, including mowing, dragging, and use of field turf maintenance equipment.
- Maintain and repair equipment as necessary.
- Prepare sites for athletic events, including checking trash, lighting, and parking lots, such that they are suitable for public use.
- Maintain regular attendance and punctuality.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

- Ability to perform strenuous manual tasks and to withstand exposure to inclement weather conditions.
- Ability to exercise independent, sound judgment while adhering to prescribed policies and procedures, and to perform the essential functions of the position with minimal supervision.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships and work in partnership with supervisors, other staff, students, and the general public.
- Ability to follow district policies and procedures at all times.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Considerable knowledge of the standard practices, methods, tasks, and materials used in grounds maintenance and in maintaining athletic fields.
- Reasonable knowledge of the standard practices, methods, tools, and materials used in building maintenance and repair including some carpentry, plumbing, and electrical experience.
- Knowledge of safety practices related to grounds maintenance and building maintenance.
- Experience with building maintenance and repair.
- Demonstrated experience with safe and efficient operation of hand tools and equipment necessary to perform grounds and building maintenance work.
- Basic technology skills, including email, word processing, and spreadsheets.
- Successful completion of criminal history records check, as required by law.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with artificial turf, including cleaning and grooming.
- Experience laying out athletic fields, including use of a painting machine to paint lines.
- Experience setting up athletic events and all associated equipment.
- Bilingual Spanish/English preferred.
NUMBER OF HOURS PER DAY: 8.0 HOURS PER DAY (TUESDAY - SATURDAY)
NUMBER OF DAYS WORKED PER SCHOOL YEAR: 260 DAYS PER YEAR
HOURLY RATE OF PAY: $23.47 - $33.03 PER HOUR (RANGE 14)
