The individual accepting this position must be bilingual and will teach bilingual education at the elementary level. They must have the ability to teach English acquisition skills, be willing to help in the implementation of a district ESOL/bilingual plan, be willing to work with teachers outside the ESOL/bilingual program, and be an advocate for ESOL students. A successful candidate would understand the research and philosophy of Dual Language Instruction, be prepared to teach in Spanish for all content areas, and share a commitment to equity and engaging and rigorous instruction for all students.

 

Special Requirements:   (Certification, training, specialty skills or previous experience)


1.   Valid Oregon teaching license appropriate to the assignment.

2.   Must be fluent reading, writing, speaking, and understanding Spanish.

3.   ESOL/Bilingual endorsement required, or in the process of getting it.  Knowledge of sheltered English skills preferred.

4.   Must demonstrate excellent attendance and punctuality.

5.   Willing to work as a member of a team working on planning and organization of student instruction.

6.   Interest in being involved with the total school community.

7.  Personal attributes: Possession of a good sense of humor, willingness to work hard, demonstrated rapport with students, high energy level and possession of sound organizational skills and practices.
